We’ve made significant strides in advancing the aviation mechanic training pipeline at the Salisbury-Ocean City: Wicomico Regional Airport. In August 2025, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s FAA Part 147 Certified Aviation Maintenance Technician School officially opened, offering a 12-month, hands-on program that prepares students to sit for the Airframe and Power-Plant (A&P) examination and earn industry-recognized certification — a first of its kind on the Eastern Shore and a major workforce development milestone for the region. 

We successfully secured a new commercial air service from Breeze Airways at Salisbury Regional Airport. This marks a significant milestone for our region, bringing the first nonstop flights to Orlando, Florida, and expanding travel opportunities for residents and businesses across the Eastern Shore. The strong community response has already led to increased service frequency, demonstrating the demand for enhanced air connectivity and reinforcing our commitment to economic growth and regional accessibility.

County Executive Julie Giordano has been instrumental in securing and fostering major investment from St. John Properties in Wicomico County’s economic landscape by helping bring two large-scale commercial developments to the region.  St John's has been a terrific partner and has complimented the Executive on her tenacity and collaboration. This will strengthen our county’s ability to attract and retain employers, create jobs, and support long-term economic growth.

County Executive Julie Giordano is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo), representing Wicomico County at the state level. The Board collaborates with county leaders from across Maryland to help shape policy discussions, advocate for local priorities, and strengthen the partnership between county governments and state leadership. Through this role, she ensures our community has a strong and active voice in decisions that impact counties statewide.

Under the leadership of Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano, Moody’s Investors Service upgraded the county’s credit rating from Aa2 to Aa1, reflecting strong financial performance, effective governance, and disciplined fiscal management. The upgrade recognized the county’s prudent budgeting, expanding local economy, and strategic investments in infrastructure and economic development. The improved rating positions Wicomico County among the top-rated jurisdictions in the region and strengthens its ability to borrow at favorable rates to support long-term community growth.

Under the leadership of County Executive Julie Giordano, Wicomico County made a historic investment in education by fully funding the Board of Education’s budget request while also committing to the construction of the new Fruitland Primary School. This dual investment reflects a clear priority: ensuring students learn in modern, safe facilities while providing educators with the resources they need to succeed. By supporting both operational funding and long-term infrastructure, the County continues to strengthen the foundation of public education for families across Wicomico County.
